Stephen B Beres

Stephen Beres is Associate Professor of Pathology and Genomic Medicine at the Houston Methodist Institute for Academic Medicine, and Director of Microbial Informatics in the Center for Human Molecular and Translational Research at the Houston Methodist Research Institute. He received a B.A. in Biochemistry and a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from Northwestern University. Prior to joining Houston Methodist in 2006, he conducted infectious disease research at the University of Washington, the National Institutes of Health Rocky Mountain Laboratories, and the Baylor College of Medicine. He has over 20 years experience in human infectious disease research where he has used population pathogenomic approaches to investigate the genetic and evolutionary basis of the pathogenic and epidemic behavior of multiple bacteria including Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus zooepidemicus, Staphylococcus aureus, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
