Hoa T Ngo
Assoc. Prof. Ngo Thi Hoa is a molecular microbiologist and head of the Zoonoses group at Oxford University Clinical Research Unit, Vietnam (OUCRU), the Wellcome Trust Major Overseas Programme, Centre for Tropical Medicine, University of Oxford. She is also affiliated with University of Science, National University in HCMC, Vietnam.
She completed her PhD training at Royal Holloway, University of London, UK. She did her 1st postdoctoral training at Yale University, USA with the Wellcome Trust Fellowship. She returned to Vietnam in 2005 and has worked at OUCRU since.
She studies 1) the microbiology, genetics, epidemiology, host response and antimicrobial resistance of the zoonotic pathogen Streptococcus suis, one of the most important pathogen of acute bacterial meningitis in human in Vietnam and Asia; 2) the potential impacts of antimicrobial usage in agriculture in developing countries to public health and 3) the zoonotic transmission of antimicrobial resistant E. coli.
She has established an extensive collaborative networks with several key human and animal health sectors and institutions in the provinces, regional and national levels in Vietnam. She is author and co-author of over 60 peer reviewed publications.
